All-Wales Secondary Care Community Acquired Pneumonia Guideline – ICST

All-Wales Secondary Care Community Acquired Pneumonia Guideline

This National Guideline has been developed for secondary care in Wales by the Respiratory Health Implementation Group (RHIG). The guideline is broken down into 5 simple steps, with a heavy emphasis on not just the antibiotic choices, but making sure we are checking the diagnosis of pneumonia, assessing severity and considering co-morbidities.

Key recommendations:

  • Guideline-adherent prescribing across the country
  • Use of the CURB-65 score to categorise severity of CAP
  • Use of Amoxicillin as opposed to other beta-lactam antibiotics
