Swallowing problems – ICST

Swallowing problems

Dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, is common for patients with a tracheostomy, and therefore a speech and language assessment is required for all patients prior to starting eating and drinking. A clinical bedside assessment will enable the speech and language therapist to assess the safety of the patient’s swallow and make a plan for rehabilitation of the larynx and the swallow function.
