The pharmacotherapy of asthma is a complex and evolving topic. Asthma triggers may be divided into two categories: “inflammatory” and “bronchoconstrictive”. Therefore asthma pharmacotherapy revolves around the two main areas: reversal or prevention of airway inflammation and reversal or prevention of bronchial smooth muscle constriction, respectively.
