TV Show: Making a diagnosis of COPD
The publication of the National COPD audit has highlighted some of the key issues in respiratory care. Anonymised routine data extracted from the records of almost 50,000 patients on COPD registers in Welsh general practices highlight that there are serious concerns about the diagnosis of COPD; one in four patients on COPD registers in Wales do not have a record of post-bronchodilator spirometry, and therefore could be mis-diagnosed.
The All-Wales COPD Management and Prescribing guideline is a simple, one-page guideline, providing specific guidance for anyone making a diagnosis of COPD across Wales. It standardises the diagnostic process, and provides a consistent approach to care in Wales.
In this TV show, Natalie Janes, Respiratory Nurse Specialist, explores the problem further and introduces the Guideline.
