To assess competence in essential management of a tracheostomy, candidates are required to complete a summative multiple choice exam. You will have 45 minutes to answer 25 questions . The pass mark is 80%. If you do not meet the assessment criteria, don’t panic! You can resit as many times as you need.
During this exam, you will be assessed against the following learning outcomes:
- Understanding the clinical application of a tracheostomy
- Management of a tracheostomy according to the TRACHES checklist; Tapes and dressings, Red flags of tracheostomy care, Assessment of the inner tube, Cuff pressure, Humidification and oxygen, Emergency management and Suction
- The multi-disciplinary team involved in the management of a patient with a tracheostomy, and Optimising Patient Experience
