Underlying risk factors for abnormal liver blood tests

The two main common causes for abnormal liver blood tests include:

  • Excess body weight
  • Excess alcohol consumption

 

Other risk factors include substance misuse and previous intravenous drug use, and high risk sexual practices, and certain ethnicity. Some patients will have a family history of liver disease, suggesting rarer diseases.
