Step 3: First line and second line treatment

Step 3 of the All Wales pathway (linked below) is to optimise the patient’s condition before initiating antibiotic therapy (check inhaler technique, airways clearance technique, smoking cessation and fluid intake), initiate the patient on first line antibiotics and escalate to second line antibiotics if the first line treatment fails or known resistance to Ciprofloxacin.
