Screening or case finding? – ICST

Screening or case finding?

There is ongoing controversy for the screening of COPD.

Most people think case finding is better than screening; patients present with history and symptoms suggestive of COPD and diagnostic tests are used to confirm or eliminate the diagnosis. However there are thought to be many thousands, probably hundreds of thousands of people who are walking around with undiagnosed COPD. Underdiagnosis most frequently involves patients in early stages of COPD.
