Personal Protective Equipment in COVID-19

COVID-19 is transmitted via droplet transmission, and the transmission is highest when the patient is currently symptomatic. The droplet transmission also informs the personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent the inhalation of the droplets.

The current PPE is a surgical fluid repellent mask, eye protection, apron and gloves. Additional protection may be necessary according to a risk assessment of risk of splashes into the eye or risk of aerosol generating procedures, and these include FFP3 mask or equivalent, full face visor and long-sleeved fluid repellent gown.
