Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome – ICST

Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome

The combination of clinical obesity and hypoventilation for reasons other than lung disease or neuromuscular weakness. Hypoventilation in these patients often present during wakefulness, but it is accentuated during sleep. Most patients with OHS also have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Hypopnoea Syndrome, and treatment with CPAP will often normalise the daytime hypercapnia and overnight hypoxia.
