Making a referral to a sleep service
Patients should be referred to a local sleep service if their history is compatible with a diagnosis of OSA, and they are experiencing excessive daytime sleepiness which is having an impact at home or at work.
Part of an effective referral would include:
- Description of the patient’s symptoms
- How the symptoms are having an impact to the patient’s quality of life
- The patient’s driving status
- Examination of the upper airway
- Screening blood tests
