Lifestyle advice for patients with suspected OSA – ICST

Lifestyle advice for patients with suspected OSA

In addition, we can provide our patients with lifestyle advice that might improve their OSA, including:

  • Advising on weight loss, exercise, smoking cessation, and reducing alcohol intake, if appropriate
  • Advising the person to try sleeping on their side
  • Assessing the person’s risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes
  • Monitoring blood pressure
  • Giving advice on driving (for example not driving if sleepy, informing the DVLA about their condition, and checking entitlement to drive)
  • Giving advice on support groups (for example www.sleep-apnoea-trust.org)
