A demonstration of suction in a child – ICST

A demonstration of suction in a child

Demonstration by the team from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

This video tutorial covers the process of suctioning a tracheostomy tube, emphasising that it supports, but does not replace, hands-on training. Suctioning is used to help children with tracheostomies clear their airways by applying negative pressure to remove secretions. It should only be done when necessary, based on signs like increased secretions, coughing, difficulty breathing, distress, colour change, low oxygen levels, or high heart rate.
